Mr. Tony Schiavo is a native of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania on the outskirts of Philadelphia, where he grew up surrounded by his large Italian family. While attending Boston College in the early 1990s, Tony discovered a lively interest in history. After graduation, he couldn’t shake the feeling that his sixteen years of Catholic education had left him ill prepared to cope with a world increasingly hostile to Christianity. As a result, he began a self-directed course of study and was amazed to discover the vast historical, spiritual and literary treasures of the Catholic Church which had been almost completely neglected during his formal education.
An aficionado of books, Tony has enjoyed a twenty-year career in academic and professional publishing. He is currently an acquisitions editor at SLACK, Incorporated, in charge of contracting new books in ophthalmology and physical therapy. In 2001, Tony helped found Arx Publishing, a small Catholic press dedicated to publishing new literary works for young adults as well as scholarly books on history and languages. Beyond his role as general manager at Arx, Tony serves as editor of the Christian Roman Empire series and the Fontes Mediaevalium series. An avid reader of historical fiction and lives of the saints, Tony has reviewed nearly 200 books from a Catholic perspective on a variety of online platforms.
Tony and his wife Rachel are the parents of six children, all of whom are homeschooled. For the past five years, Tony and Rachel have run the CHAPLET Catholic Homeschool Conference which takes place in Berlin, New Jersey each spring. Tony serves as a lector at his home parish of St. Peters in Merchantville, New Jersey, and is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoys wilderness adventures and watching South Korean historical dramas with his wife and children.
