This conference is for everyone, not just homeschooling families. All religious are especially welcome.
We love children, but must restrict attendance to teens and nursing babies only.

Last year, we were only able to have a one-day conference. Thanks to Dr. Ray Guarendi and our great speakers, despite the shortened schedule, it turned out to be a phenomenal success! If you haven’t had a chance to see our new IHM Conference video on our homepage, check it out! This video was shot at the Tampa Conference in 2012 by Two Sense Films and is now the “face” of IHM. This year, we are bringing Dr. Ray back and were able to go back to a two-day schedule.

Father Edwin Palka was ordained for the Diocese of St. Petersburg in 1996. Since then he has been assigned to numerous parishes and is currently serving as pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in San Antonio, Florida. Though the parish has a wonderful elementary school (K-8) attached to it, he is also an ardent supporter of those who choose to give their children a solid Catholic education at home.

Unlike other conference speakers, he doesn’t have any particular claim to fame or any special degrees. He hasn’t published any books or appeared on any television shows. He is a simple parish priest who has the goal of heping his people become Saints– both in this world and later in Heaven.
Dr. Ray Guarendi is a homeschooling father, clinical psychologist, author, public speaker and a radio host. His experience includes school districts, Head Start programs, mental health centers, substance abuse programs, inpatient psychiatric centers, juvenile courts, and a private practice.

Dr. Guarendi has been a regular guest on national radio and television, including Oprah, Joan Rivers, Scott Ross Prime Time, 700 Club, Gordon Elliot, and CBS This Morning. He’s appeared on regional radio and television shows in over 40 states and Canada. He has been the program psychologist for Cleveland’s Morning Exchange, Pittsburgh 2-Day, and AM Indiana. He has written several books, including You’re a Better Parent Than You Think!, Back to the Family and Discipline That Lasts a Lifetime.
Dr. Catherine Moran received her B.A. in Biology, Chemistry, and Speech/Hearing Therapy from Kent State University, and her Masters and Ph.D. in Education from Breyer State University. A mother of five, she has over 20 years of homeschooling experience.

She was president of the Catholic Home School Network of America, founder of the Ohio Educators’ Catholic Home Schooling Network, and a member of the CHSNA delegation to Rome on behalf of Catholic Home Education, which visited with Pope John Paul II in 1995 and 1997.

Dr. Moran is a secular Franciscan, and served as prefect of her fraternity for three years. Currently acting as secretary-treasurer of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, Byzantine Chapter in Warren, Ohio, she has presented the Fatima message to over 20,000 adults and children in the Northeastern Ohio and Tri-state area.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Barrett is a home educating mother of seven children. Her column, “Life in Our Domestic Church,” is regularly featured in The Long Island Catholic. She has spoken at numerous homeschooling conferences on topics such as socialization and the challenges of raising a special needs child. In her popular blog, Tales from the Bonny Blue House, Mary Ellen writes about daily life and happenings in her Catholic home. In addition, she writes about the Catholic celebration of Christmas in her blog O Night Divine. Currently, she is working on two books, a book about life as a mom of a large family and an Advent Book of Days. Besides writing and blogging, Mary Ellen enjoys cooking, sewing, photography, and studying Theology.

Apologetics: An Essential for Keeping Your Kids Catholic

Catholic homeschoolers are often surrounded by like-minded families and search out solidly orthodox parishes. Homeschool Socialization: Debunking the Myth

A light-hearted but factual look at the real way that homeschooling properly socializes children to function as well-rounded, moral adults. Mrs. Barrett offers encouragement and advice about how socialization really works in the Catholic homeschool.

Lessons for Life from Children

Children are consummate teachers about life. Their lessons are innocently straightforward, yet hard-hitting. Any grownup, be he/she a parent or former child, will personally relate to these lessons for life. This presentation will leave grownups a little more grown-up, and happier for it.
11:00am Mrs. Mary Ellen Barrett
How to Homeschool and Keep our Sanity–It Can be Done

Educating your children, keeping a home, managing outside activities and feeding everyone in between would overwhelm any mom. Mrs. Barrett takes a lighthearted and fun look at ten basic principles that will help your homeschool run smoothly and bring peace to your days.

1:30pm Fr. Edwin Palka
Prayer: Necessary for Salvation but Seldom Really Taught

Homeschooled children often know more prayers than the average Catholic. For instance, they know the Mysteries of the Rosary and each Station of the Cross; Grace before meals, and the Act of Contrition. Because of this, parents often forget to actually teach the basics of prayer: what it is, what it does, why it is essential for salvation, and so much more. More than teaching the prayers, we must teach prayer itself.
2:30pm Dr. Catherine Moran
Benchmarks for Learning

As a homeschooling parent, do you often wonder where your children are academically? Are they on target or behind in developmental skills needed to learn? What are the benchmarks for the various age groups for learning? This vitally important information will help you keep your children on target academically and help you keep control of their education.
