This conference is for everyone, not just homeschooling families. All religious are especially welcome.

Our North Texas conference has been our largest and best regional conference for the past 6 years. We are now able to make the conference free for attendees! You can sign up for our email updates and like us on Facebook so that you can get information about the conference as soon as it is available.

The University of Dallas is hosting a special Homeschool Open House on Thursday, July 10, to coincide with the conference. The UD campus is only about 18 minutes from the Arlington Convention Center. You can register to participate HERE.

fr james webFr. James Yamauchi is a priest of the Diocese of Dallas and serves as the parochial vicar of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Born in 1985, he is the oldest of six children and grew up in a military family, living in Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Germany, Mississippi, and moved to the Dallas area in 2001. Father James attended public schools, private schools, and was homeschooled for 6 years, graduating high school using the homeschool program offered by Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School located in Bardstown, Kentucky. Father James entered seminary formation in 2003 for the Diocese of Dallas and was ordained a deacon on October 7, 2010, and a priest on July 16, 2011.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Barrett is a home educating mother of seven children. Her column, “Life in Our Domestic Church,” is regularly featured in The Long Island Catholic. She has spoken at numerous homeschooling conferences on topics such as socialization and the challenges of raising a special needs child. In her popular blog, Tales from the Bonny Blue House, Mary Ellen writes about daily life and happenings in her Catholic home. In addition, she writes about the Catholic celebration of Christmas in her blog O Night Divine. Currently, she is working on two books, a book about life as a mom of a large family and an Advent Book of Days. Besides writing and blogging, Mary Ellen enjoys cooking, sewing, photography, and studying Theology.
Everett webMr. Everett Buyarski is the Academic Department Director for Kolbe Academy. He grew up in Southeast Alaska, and received his BA in Philosophy from Gonzaga University. While at Gonzaga he spent two years in the college seminary and successfully discerned that he was not called to the priesthood. Before starting with Kolbe in 2008; he taught high school math and science in rural Idaho.

In addition to managing the academic department at Kolbe, Everett also handles advising in the areas of theology, math, and science, and teaches 10th grade theology online. Everett speaks on a variety of topics, including Faith & Reason, Science Education, Social Justice, the Principle of Subsidiarity, and Sacramental Theology. Everett and his wife Melissa have 3 young boys, and live in American Canyon, CA.
Mrs. Colleen Hammond is the author of Dressing with Dignity, and was a former On-Camera Meteorologist for The Weather Channel, a model, actress and Miss Michigan National Teen-Ager. Colleen lived the “American Dream” and found it to be a nightmare! While working in television, she reverted to the Catholic Faith. The moment their first baby was born, Colleen “saw the light” and abandoned her highly successful career in television to become a stay-at-home-mother. Currently heard as a host of “St. Joseph Radio Presents”—available to 85 million people worldwide on WEWN—Colleen has also been asked to host a television talk show in Dallas, which may soon be syndicated.

Colleen is an award-winning writer, radio and television talk show host, educator, comedienne, and mother—all rolled into one! Acclaimed for her versatility, she delivers an enduring message filled with down-to-earth wisdom, inspiration, and humor. Colleen brings a fresh and creative approach to living joyfully, and has helped thousands of people every year to make positive and virtuous changes in their lives. A frequent speaker at conferences, retreats, and parish events, Colleen addresses such timely issues as marriage, children, family, and values and virtues. Groups appreciate her real-life solutions to tough problems—presented with compassion, warmth, and a lively interactive style.

Colleen, her husband, and their four children currently reside in North Texas.
Amy2014adjustedwebMrs. Amy Kalscheur graduated from Marian College in 1995 with a BA in Elementary Education and Mild Disabilities. After teaching in public schools for 2 years, Amy and her husband, Michael, decided that when their son was ready for school, they would begin by homeschooling instead of the traditional route. Amy and Michael now have 8 children, all of whom have been homeschooled since birth.

Amy is the treasurer for Holy Family Home Educators, and has been chairwoman of the Indianapolis Catholic Home School Conference since 2007. In addition to teaching at her local homeschool co-op, she also puts on children’s special events for the Knights of Columbus. She has been her husband’s campaign manager for 3 campaigns. Amy and Michael are active in their parish’s sponsor couple program, Blue Knights and lead the Little Flowers.
patrick_madrid_webMr. Patrick Madrid is the president of the Envoy Institute which, from 1996-2011, published the quarterly Catholic journal, Envoy Magazine. He has authored or edited 20 books on Catholic themes including, Pope Fiction, Search and Rescue, Does the Bible Really Say That? and Envoy for Christ: 25 Years as a Catholic Apologist. He edited and co-authored the multi-volume Surprised by Truth series. His total book sales, including foreign-language editions, are approximately 800,000 copies worldwide.

Over the past 27 years, Patrick has published numerous popular articles on Scripture, Church history, patristics, apologetics, and evangelization in various Catholic and Protestant periodicals, and he has contributed scholarly articles on apologetics in the New Catholic Encyclopedia.

Patrick worked at Catholic Answers for eight years (January 1988 to January 1996), where he served as vice president and helped launch that apostolate’s flagship magazine, This Rock, in January of 1990. During his time at Catholic Answers, he co-authored the booklet Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth, millions of copies of which have been printed (in English, Spanish, Arabic, German, French, Tagalog, and other languages) and distributed around the world.

Patrick is a life-long Catholic, not a convert. By God’s grace, he was raised in the Catholic Faith and has been a practicing Catholic his entire life. Growing up in Southern California, he attended grammar school at the Mission San Juan Capistrano parish school, where for several years he served as an altar boy for the parish’s daily Traditional Latin Mass in the famed Serra Chapel.

Patrick earned a bachelor of science degree in business from the University of Phoenix, as well as a B.Phil. in philosophy and an M.A. in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.

He has served as an adjunct professor of theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville and is a research fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Studies. He is also an adjunct professor of theology in the Holy Apostles College and Seminary‘s distance graduate theology program.

Patrick hosts the popular “Right Here, Right Now” radio show, Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm ET. His show is produced by Immaculate Heart Radio and is broadcast on the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network of approximately 230 AM & FM stations across the U.S., as well as on Sirius Satellite Radio (channel 130), globally via shortwave, and on the Internet. Patrick is also a frequent guest and occasional guest-host on the “Catholic Answers Live” program.

Patrick and his wife Nancy have been blessed with 11 children and even more granchildren. Their most important goal as a couple is to hear the Lord Jesus say to them and their children one day, “Well done, good and faithful servants; you have been faithful over a little . . . now enter into the joy of your Master” (Matt. 25:21).
