Friday June 28th, 2013 @ 2:00pm to 8:00pm
Saturday June 29th, 2013 @ 9:00am to 4:00pm

This conference is for everyone, not just homeschooling families. All religious are especially welcome.
We love children, but must restrict attendance to teens and nursing babies only.

Our North Texas conference has been our largest and best regional conference for the past 5 years. For the very first time, we are now able to make the conference free for attendees! We hope this change will allow even more people to join us. You can sign up for our email updates and like us on Facebook so that you can get information about the conference as soon as it is available.

Fr. Shenan Boquet, before being appointed as President of Human Life International, came from the Houma Thibodaux Roman Catholic Diocese, where he most recently served as Pastor of St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish in Houma, Louisiana.

Since being ordained as a priest in 1993, Fr. Boquet has given hundreds of talks at conferences and in parishes on issues ranging from the dignity of the human person and the nature of marriage, to social justice and moral theology. He has given retreats and educational seminars on the Theology of the Body, Holy Scripture and various theological topics. Fr. Boquet has also appeared numerous times on EWTN and Ave Maria Radio, as well as in other media. He has served and continues to serve on numerous boards, including the Diocesan Priests Council, of which he remains Chairman.

Fr. Boquet grew up in the small town of Bourg, Louisiana, just south of Houma in a devoutly Catholic family, for which he is extremely grateful. His earliest and most influential examples were of his parents and parish priests, all of whom instilled in him at a young age a love for Christ and his Church, and an active faith that was to be lived, and not merely held. He was very active as a youth in service projects with Catholic Charities and with other groups who ministered to the elderly, the sick, the poor and marginalized.

This active faith grew naturally into a vocation to the priesthood, where the contemplative and sacramental aspects of the Faith complemented and informed the active. A natural teacher, Fr. Boquet has been marginalized himself at times for sharing the Church’s teaching on life and family issues, although he emphasizes that it is important to do so with Charity. Throughout his priesthood, he has found himself in leadership positions, and increasingly in the areas of pro-life and pro-family teaching and advocacy.
Dr. Michael Foley holds his doctorate in Catholic systematic theology and is an associate professor of Patristics in the Great Texts Program at Baylor University. Before going to Baylor, he taught at Boston College and the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Foley has published over 100 essays and reviews ranging from scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals to popular or pastoral pieces in First Things, The Latin Mass, and The Wall Street Journal. His interests include theology, liturgy, political philosophy, film, and popular culture.

He authored Why Do Catholics Eat Fish on Friday? The Catholic Origin to Just About Everything (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005), and Wedding Rites: A Complete Guide to Traditional Vows, Music, Ceremonies, Blessings, and Interfaith Services (Eerdmans, 2008).

Foley has edited several books including Frank Sheed’s classic translation of St. Augustine’s Confessions (Hackett, 2006).

Foley has also appeared on numerous radio programs as well as several Eternal Word Television Network programs, including “EWTN Live” with Fr. Mitch Pacwa and “Bookmark” with Doug Keck.

A southern California native of Irish and French Canadian descent, Michael Foley now lives happily in unjustly defamed Waco, Texas, with his wife Alexandra and their six children. He is the Master of Ceremonies at his local parish for the celebration of the extraordinary form of the Roman rite and wishes he had more time for fishing, reading, and classic cars.

He and his wife Alexandra homeschool their five children: Catherine, Mary, James, Peter, and Monica.
Mrs. Colleen Billing is a homeschooling mother of five children and has been married to her husband Andrew for around 20 years. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a bachelor of arts in public speaking and a minor in teaching English.

Colleen runs a professional organizing business called Peaceful Interiors, and works part-time at a personal training studio near her home in Westmont, Illinois. She has a passion for helping women (and men!) embrace a simpler, clutter-free life, and believes that a peaceful, beautiful home and a strong, healthy body are part of God’s plan for each of us.

She has been a retreat master and a guest speaker at various homeschooling “home management” meetings, and both she and her husband are permanently professed members of The Brothers and Sisters of Charity.
Mr. Andrew Pudewa is the founder, principal speaker, and director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing. Presenting throughout North America, he addresses issues relating to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity, insight, practical experience, and humor. His seminars for parents, students, and teachers have helped transform many a reluctant writer and have equipped educators with powerful tools to dramatically improve students’ skills.

Although he is a graduate of the Talent Education Institute in Japan (Suzuki Method) and holds a Certificate of Child Brain Development, his best endorsement is from a young Alaskan boy who called him “the funny man with the wonderful words.” He and his beautiful, heroic wife Robin are parents of seven, grandparents of three, and educators of their two youngest children at home in Oklahoma’s Green Country.
Mrs. Virginia (Ginny) Seuffert, a native New Yorker and mother of 12, has been homeschooling for over 20 years! While in New York, Mrs. Seuffert lectured, debated, and wrote a number of articles for the Pro-Life movement. After moving to Illinois, she became a founding member of the Network of Illinois Catholic Home Educators, helped establish the “Round Table” (a Catholic home school leadership discussion group), and became a founder and officer of the Catholic Home School Network of America.

In addition to appearing on EWTN, she has been a guest on numerous radio shows, lectured at Catholic family conferences all over the United States and Canada, and has authored several articles on such topics as home education, teaching children the virtues, and household management. The Illinois Press Association awarded her first place honors for a column she wrote defending traditional family values in a local newspaper. The Seton Home Study School Newsletter regularly features her columns, and recently Seton Press published her first two books of a series, Ginny’s Gems: Home Management Essentials and Ginny’s Gems: 10 Essentials for Teaching Your Preschooler at Home.

Time Speaker Talk
2:00pm Registration/Vendor Area Opens/Holy Rosary
2:30pm Fr. Shenan Boquet
Put Your Nets Out into the Deep

Our life is both a gift from God and a work in progress. How do we know which path to take? Who will teach us? Today the art of living is overshadowed by a false understanding of man and woman and their ultimate destiny. As cultures continue to collapse, it becomes imperative for all Christians to fully participate in the restoration of all things in Christ.
3:30pm Mrs. Virginia Seuffert
Public Education and the Necessity of Homeschooling

Do you know what goes on in public school classrooms? Many parents don’t fully understand the role state schools have seized in molding the minds and habits of American children. Parents, however, and not the schools are ultimately responsible for raising happy and virtuous children. Home education is not just an option, it is key to our nation’s future.
4:30 – 6:00pm Vendor Sales/Dinner
6:00pm Mr. Andrew Pudewa
Nurturing Competent Communicators

Many parents think that good readers will naturally become good writers. Others think that writing talent is just that—a natural ability—some have it, others don’t. Both are myths. What are the two most critical things you can do as a parent to develop a high level of aptitude, from a young age and into high school?
7:00pm Mrs. Colleen Billing
Scheduling Your School Day

Are you often frustrated because you cannot seem to get through all your schoolwork? Do you dream about finishing school in May instead of July? If you want practical tips for setting up your school schedule, come hear professional organizer, Colleen Billing, share her time-tested strategies with you!
Time Speaker Talk
9:00am Registration/Holy Rosary
9:30am Mr. Andrew Pudewa
The Profound Influence of Music on Life

Music has become such an ever-present influence in our daily life, we seldom stop to consider what effect it has on us. In what way is music beneficial to our bodies and minds? In what circumstances can it actually be harmful? Solid scientific research provides some astounding answers to such questions–indeed, facts that must not be ignored by today’s parents.
10:30am Fr. Shenan Boquet
Breathing Catholic Air

It is said that we are the product of our home. We are what our home has made us. If we truly want to recover a Catholic Culture, we need to filter the air our children breathe and to surround them in an environment that conditions their thoughts and actions to what is good and true.
11:30am Mrs. Virginia Seuffert
Discipline: The First Essential of Homeschooling

Experienced homeschooling parents know the path to successful homeschooling is paved with virtues like obedience, order, patience, and industriousness. Calm, confident parents who inculcate these values will be rewarded with children who are a pleasure to teach.
12:30 – 2:00pm Lunch
2:00pm Mrs. Colleen Billing
Organize Your Home, Enrich Your Life

Are there piles of paper all over your house? Does your bedroom look more like a storage closet than a sanctuary? Do you tell the kids to hide if someone shows up unexpectedly at your door? Listen to a professional organizer give tips for doing the exterior decluttering that will bring interior peace.
3:00pm Dr. Michael Foley
The Catholic Origins to Everyday Things and Why It Matters

Did you know that Groundhog Day derives from devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary? That pretzels and beer developed in response to the Lenten fast? Or that there are dozens of craters on the Moon named after Jesuit priests? Dr. Foley will take you on a fascinating tour of the surprising Catholic origin to everyday things and how this knowledge can be useful in homeschooling.
